Pointers on PublishingMaking money while you sleep

One sure-fire way to easily earn a passive income in 2013 and beyond!

Foremost on many of our minds is how to earn that extra dollar. It can be a daunting and challenging exercise to find that one thing that can possibly or most likely bring in some extra money to do the things we need to do daily, plan for in the future or just to save for a rainy day.

I have come up with one sure-fire way to help you along the way. Some of you may wonder what this has to do with publishing, since this is a publishing column, but what I am about to share with you is part of publishing as well as marketing, for one cannot occur without the other. It may even entice some of you to go out and be innovative and earn more when you see how easy it is.

Let’s start off by clearly understanding what a passive income is. Without getting all technical about it, I like to think of it as income earned with very little to no investment, effort and maintenance. In a nutshell, I consider it making money while you sleep. Isn’t that a dream?

A realistic dream too. Now don’t take this lightly. As with any strategy to make money, you just can’t set it up and leave it to work on its own. While this strategy takes minimal effort and investment, it does require some amount of work on your part to reap the dividends, but you can also get help by leveraging the efforts of others. We should all aspire to what John D. Rockefeller said: “I would rather earn one per cent off a 100 people’s efforts than 100 per cent of my own efforts”.

The sure-fire way I am speaking about is affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing surrounds the promotion and sales of mainly tangible products such as books, digital products and even courses. This model revolves around three groups of peoplethe seller, the affiliate (you in this case) and the customer.

In terms of set up, all you need is a website or a blog which I am sure most of you already have, but if you don’t, you can easily set up a WordPress blog for free by going to http://wordpress.com/

On your website or blog, you promote other seller’s products by using text or image links that will be attached to your affiliate ID. There is a tracking system that works behind the scenes so that anyone who clicks on your text or image link will be tracked so when they make the final purchase, you will be credited with a percentage of the price of that particular product. The price and percentage is set by the seller. Some sellers even allow for you to make money by the number of clicks you get on your link which adds to the pot.

There are many places you can go to search out affiliate opportunities, but I would suggest starting with something that is in your area that you like, so, for example, if you like computers, or let’s say books, then you search out places that offer an affiliate programme and sign up to be able to promote their products to make some money. One place you can go is http://www.clickbank.com. They already have a wide variety of categories and you can pick, choose and refuse what products you are interested in promoting on your blog or website. Remember, the purpose of your blog is simply leading your visitors to a buying decision by telling them about products that will help them reach their goals and fix their problems. It’s really as simple as that.

THE EXPERT ROUTE

Another great way is if you are an expert on a topic, let’s say computing, you can set up your own blog as a review site for computers. People are always using reviews to make a decision whether for travel, accommodation, places to go, or books to read and buy. Whatever the case may be, position yourself as an expert and start a review site where you can offer reviews on various products using your affiliate links in your content so when purchasers decide on going with what you recommend, you are rewarded! Simple, right?!

To those authors who already have tangible products, set up your own affiliate system on your website or blog using a wordpress plugin which you can access here: bit.ly/UqvlsF

Set up is easy and it does everything for you after that. It’s your business on auto pilot. Why would you need to set up your own? Remember what Rockefeller said? I am sure by now most, if not all, of you have realised that you can’t promote and sell your books or products all by yourself, all the time. So why not have others help you? That is leverage off others, in order to get your books and products sold and your affiliates will also gain as well. It’s like having your own sales force at work for you. It is a win-win situation for all involved.

I can tell you it works, for I use it and my affiliates who truly promote do get paid using my system, but you need to have products. So here comes the part about being innovative that I mentioned earlier. Now that you realise that you need to have something tangible to sell online, it only means that you need to look within yourself to determine what you can create in a short space of time that offers quality and value.

I 2012, I wrote an article on ’5 ways to create your own e-book’, look back at it to get some suggestions and get started. Now it may not be an e-book for some of you, but this is a simple and quick way to get started.

This passive-income model is the one main way to earn that money while you sleepguaranteed. Some sellers even offer up to 25 per cent commission on the selling price. There are people who earn US$100-200/day and I recently heard of someone in my network who made US$4,000 in four minutes just promoting the seller’s products. I was utterly shocked that it brought me back to my senses to get back on the train of affiliate marketing.

So stop whining and sayingnutten nah gwaan fi mi”. Many opportunities are out there for the taking. You need only to open your mind and pockets to the potential of affiliate marketing for 2013 and beyond.

In my next article, I will introduce you to an approach that is revolutionising the marketing industry as well as a tool you can use to your advantage that can explode your sales and business. Follow my Facebook page and website blog to get some hints.

‘Methpriest left told followers he’s leaving to ‘make money,’ says source

Den “Meth Monsignorbusted for selling drugs after his kinky behavior got him suspended by superiors told his Connecticut flock he was leaving “to make more money,” a parishioner told the Daily News Saturday.

Pastor Kevin Wallin, 61, who could face life in prison for his alleged role in a cross-country methamphetamine ring, resigned from St. Augustine’s Parish in Bridgeport in June 2011, citing health and personal issues, church officials said this week.

But Wallin, who worked as a personal secretary to Edward Cardinal Egan for years when Egan was Bishop of Bridgeport, told parishioners a different story, one said.

“He said he was moving, being transferred,” recalled parishioner Bernedine Jordan, 52, a substance abuse counselor.

“He said he really liked it here but he was going to somewhere where he could make more money.”

Wallin’s money-making plan, according to federal prosecutors, was a drug operation that stretched from Connecticut to California.

And sources told the Connecticut Post Wallin may have laundered drug money through an adult video store he owned.

Church officials called Wallin “compassionate” and “gifted” after his indictment Tuesday. But the pastor — who dressed in women’s clothes and had sex in the rectory, according to Connecticut Post sources — was just the opposite, Jordan said.

“He was not a humble person,” she said. “He had a personality problem. He was very overly aggressive and he had anger. When I heard about the drugs, I was not too surprised. I thought, no wonder he was always angry.

Steampunk! Introducing Britain’s latest fashion craze

The news will come as little surprise to the tens of thousands who are already into the retro-futuristic style. But experts at the computer giant IBM predict thatsteampunk will shift from low-production, high-cost ‘craftmanufacturing to mass-productionwithin the next two years.

IBM analysed social media and other internet sites, and found that the amount of online discussion about steampunk increased 11-fold between 2009 og 2012.

It also noted that, eftersom 2010, mere end 20 major department stores and other retailers had becomesteampunk savvy”.

Fashion labels, accessories suppliers and jewellery-makers are expected to integrate steampunk looks into their designs – from corsets and aviator goggles to lace veils and frock coats.

Evidence of the emerging trend can already be seen on the catwalks. Prada’s winter men’s campaign featured several of Hollywood’s leading males, including Gary Oldman, Jamie Bell and Willem Dafoe – dressed for adventure in heavily tailored, steampunk-inspired suits. The hats and equestrian-themed outfits in John Galliano’s summer 2013 collection for Dior are said to have been similarly influenced.

High-street and internet retailers haven’t been slow to react. Topshop and Asos have already embraced the trend, with the former offering a gothic velvet-and-lace bralet teamed with a floor-length pleated skirt in oxblood, and Asos has a double-breasted coat. Alternatively, Planet offers a veil fascinator.

The distinctive style – the name was first coined to distinguish a genre of fantasy set in an alternative Victorian era – can now be widely seen in everything from blockbuster films such as Van Helsing, starring Hugh Jackman, and the Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes films through to some of Lady Gaga’s wacky outfits and the steamship entrance of singer Rihanna at the London Paralympics.

IBM said its Birth of a Trend study looked at how trends spread globally online, and whether what’s trending on social networks is likely to become commercially viable.

Trevor Davis, IBM’s consumer products expert, sagde: “Technology can provide tremendous foresight, to help businesses differentiate what is a fleeting fad versus what is an enduring trend.

Some fashionistas have been sniffy: one dismissed steampunk aswhat happens when goths discover brown”.

But IBM expressed confidence in its work, saying its software was able to distinguish between sarcasm and sincerity to spot developing trends.

Heart, digestive and mental health specialists work together at Women's Specialty Center

You may be struggling with balancing work, relationships and kids.

You may have been having stomach or digestion problems.

Maybe your chest has been feeling tight.

If you are a woman, you can get care for all three of these problems at the same address, from a female doctor.

The Women’s Specialty Center recently began offering services in an office in the building adjacent to Lancaster General Women Babies Hospital, på 694 Good Drive.

Working on a rotating schedule, a cardiologist sees patients Mondays; a therapist sees patients Wednesdays; and a gastroenterologist sees patients Thursdays.

A female rheumatologist and a female endocrinologist may be added to the center within the next year.

Women’s needs are special, and they need special attention,” said Stephanie Novotny Kegel, the therapist who will see patients at the center.

The center joins others of its kind operating across the country, as health care organizations and medical practices market their services to women, who often make health care decisions for their families.

Lancaster General is coordinating this center, and some, but not all, of the specialists are its employees.

LG officials looked at two other large health care organizations — Aurora Health Care and Gundersen Lutheran, both in Wisconsin — in designing the center. Similar centers also exist at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, among others.

Local officials chose the three specialties in the belief that heart, digestive and mental health issues can be interrelated.

For example, a woman who is feeling stressed or anxious may have gastrointestinal problems or develop heart symptoms. Sometimes cardiac problems appear to be digestive symptoms, with chest pains feeling like heartburn, for example.

These three services are intermingled, from a women’s needs perspective,” said Terri Ridley, director for outpatient family health at Lancaster General, who is helping to coordinate the center.

Kegel, the therapist, she said anticipates helping women who are struggling with some type of adjustment. Perhaps a relationship has ended. Perhaps they are new mothers. Perhaps they are just burned out from being the person who keeps their family’s life running, while working and balancing other issues.

I think women are just exhausted. What they’ve done and what’s worked hasn’t necessarily been healthy, but it has worked. They just can’t keep the energy up, and things start to come apart,” said Kegel, who also works with patients with mental health and drug and alcohol issues at Lancaster General Hospital.

Dr. Sadiya Cheshty, a gastroenterologist with Regional Gastroenterology Associates of Lancaster, said doctors and professionals at the center can discuss overlapping issues with patients, as well as concentrate on their female patientsunique needs.

With regard to digestive issues, women are twice as likely as men to have irritable bowel syndrome, which can worsen with stress, sagde hun.

Screening for colon cancer among women also is a bit different than it is for men, as women are more likely to develop problems in a particular area of their colon.

Dr. Gurpinder Chatha, a cardiologist with The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health, will practice at the women’s center.

She said the center allows her to be close to obstetrics patients who are going to nearby offices or are at Women Babies Hospital and may have pregnancy-related complications such as high blood pressure or diabetes, which can increase the risk of heart disease.

The specialists at the center can all work together and create healthier women, sagde hun.

For example, the therapist can help someone who is feeling stressed or out of control and has developed unhealthy diet or exercise habits that might lead to heart disease, sagde hun.

I think it’s a good mix,” sagde hun.

MOSES LAKE- Patients at Comprehensive Family Care now have another health care provider to call on with the recent addition of Tammy Nolan, advanced registered nurse practitioner.

Nolan joined Comprehensive Family Care, run by Dr. Irene Kimura, in December. She previously spent two years specializing in women’s health at Samaritan Healthcare.

Nolan said this week she was excited to make the move since it meant she could expand the type of health care she could provide to Moses Lake residents. Instead of just seeing female patients for example, Nolan can now help members of the entire family.

I’ve always enjoyed women’s health, but now I can stay with the whole family and get to know them,” sagde hun. “I want to make that connection, and that’s why I was excited when I was offered this position.

Nolan said she wants to focus on preventative care and encourages Moses Lake families to practice healthy habits.

I’m looking forward to being more involved in the community and helping people be the best they can be,” sagde hun. “I want them to stay as healthy as possible.

Being able to get to know patients personally is what initially prompted her to return to the Columbia Basin, said Nolan. Nolan said she was working as a registered nurse in Seattle when she realized she wanted to move to a smaller community.

She pursued a master’s degree in family practice and made the move back to Grant County.

I wanted the small community lifestyle and wanted to be more involved in patient care,” said Nolan, who grew up in Ephrata.

Nolan said she enjoys being a part of the Moses Lake medical community. Between general family care providers and various specialists, Moses Lake residents have access to top notch health care, sagde hun.

We have great resources here,” sagde hun. “If we can keep it local, it will benefit the community.

Nolan said she plans on practicing in Moses Lake for the long run.

The goal is to be here for the next 15, eller 20 år,” said Nolan.

Comprehensive Family Care is located at 821 E. Broadway Ave. For mere information, ringe 509-765-1602.
